The context of this case is a small rural school, Valldeneu Infant and Primary School, that is located 60 Km north from Barcelona city. The school has 5 teachers and 40 students from 3 to 12 years of age.  We started to work in the school four years ago as an environmental educator hired by the municipality through the Environmental Education Program to develop a food garden educational project  in the school yard . The teachers decided they would focus the food garden project as a community experience including the students, teachers, families and neighbors.
In order to respond to school community actors wishes to participate in food gardening educational activities  we created the monthly “Gardening community activity” where all school community actors could teach and  learn through their participation in school food gardening. The themes of the newly created activities were centered on agroecology such as soil agroecological quality, seed germination, plague control strategies, the role of water for plant growth, garden biodiversity for crop production, etc. Each “Gardening Community Activity” lasted about 90 minutes within the regular schedule of the school and offered three types of workshops: observation, experimentation, and gardening work. All 40 students, the five teachers and the families that want to participate are organized in mixed groups of around 10 people.
